詩人1928年秋重到英國。再次來到劍橋大學。這時徐志摩已經與妻子張幼儀離婚，而林徽因也嫁給了梁啟超的兒子梁思成，從此林徽因成為徐志摩夢中可望而不可及的一個完美身影。徐志摩娶了社交名媛陸小曼。徐志摩在北平教書，而陸小曼堅持留在上海，于就是徐志摩只得經常在平滬兩地奔波。1931年11月19日徐志摩搭乘濟南號郵機從南京飛向北平，飛機在山東黨家山上空撞山炸毀，詩人也遇難身亡。
