有些英語單詞樣子上看起來差不多,但含義卻差之千里,不小心遇到的時候,請打起十二分精神!
accept except
accept: to receive 接收、接納.
例: Please accept my gift.
except: not including 除...以外.
例: We go to school everyday except Sunday.
advice advise
advice: opinion about what should be done 忠告、勸告(名詞)
例: She gives good advice.
advise: to recommend 提出忠告(及物動詞)
例: Please advise me on what to do.
affect effect
affect: to influence 給予...影響.
例: Do not let the loss affect you.
effect: a effect is a result 結(jié)果.
例: The loss did not have an effect on me.
all ready already
all ready: everything is ready 全都準備好
例: We are all ready to move.
already : previously 已經(jīng).
例: We already moved our things yesterday.
complement compliment
complement: to make complete 補充.
例: This hat will complement my new dress.
compliment: A compliment is something said in praise 稱贊.
例: Thank you for the compliment about my dress.
emigrate immigrate
emigrate: to leave one country to settle in another (由本國以往他國)移民.
例: I intend to emigrate from Hong Kong.
immigrate: to come to live in a new country (由外國而來)移民.
例: I intend to immigrate to Canada.
past passed
past : gone by or history 經(jīng)過,過去、以往.
例: The car drove past my house.
My past is very interesting.
passed: pass的過去時態(tài).
例: We passed through the town without stopping.
principal principle
principal: the head of a school 校長
例: The principal spoke to us today.
principle: a principle is an important fact or law.
例: The principle of democracy is important to ourcountry.
stationary stationery
stationary: standing still 不動的、靜止的.
例: Please remain stationary.
stationery: writing materials 文具、信紙.
例: They went to the store to buy some stationery.
uninterested disinterested
uninterested: 指沒有興趣,索然無味,漠不關(guān)心.
例: An unterested student will not learn anything. 缺乏興趣的學(xué)生什么都學(xué)不到.
詞組: unterested attitude 漠不關(guān)心的態(tài)度
be uninterested in 對...無興趣.
disinterested: 則表示沒有獲得利益的動機,進而意指沒有偏見,在美語中,也可以作漠不關(guān)心解
