Ⅰ.college的意思是“學院”，一般指大學內部的學院或獨立的學院，如：

　　① There are many colleges at Oxford and Cambridge. 牛津大學和劍橋大學有很多學院。

　　② There are several teachers’ colleges in Jiangsu Province. 江蘇省有幾所師范學院。

　　Ⅱ.institute也可以表示學院的意思，但它通常指專科性(專門的)學院，如外語學院(institute of foreign languages)、體育學院(physical culture institute)、航空學院(aeronautical engineering institute)等，如：

　　① He graduated from an institute of foreign trade. 他是外貿學院畢業的。

　　② She is a student of a chemical engineering institute.她是化工學院的學生。

　　Ⅲ.university的意思是“大學”，通常指由多個學院組織而成的綜合性大學。如：

　　He graduated from Yale in 1915.他1915年從耶魯大學畢業。
