　　OTTUMWA — On Sunday a southeast Iowa girl donated a “piece of herself”， so to say, to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hair pieces to children that experience medical hair loss. People of any age can donate hair to the cause as long as it is healthy and reaches the minimum length of 10 inches. Dyed hair is also welcome. Financially disadvantaged children receive the hair pieces, which increase their self璭steem n(自尊) and confidence. little nervous, but not very.” Jennifer Buckingham said.

　　The 11-year-old has had only two professional hair cuts all her life. During the first cut, she donated over ten inches of hair to Locks of Love. Her parents weren't the ones who encouraged her to do it.

　　揥hen I was four years old, I saw it on TV. A little girl was donating it on the news and I told my mom I wanted to do ite，” said Jennifer Buckingham.

　　It took over three years to grow enough hair to donate, but Jennifer didn't mind the wait. Jennifer's mom, Janice Buckingham and other family members watched the process. Janice couldn't be more proud of her daughter.

　　“I think it's wonderful that she would care enough about strangers and wants to do something for them，” said Janice Buckingham.

　　The barber shop named Great Clips offers the Locks of Love program for anyone who is interested in donating their hair. They perform a free haircut and send the donation to Locks of Love.

　　“It's a good cause and kids are more affected by loss of hair than adults are，” said Great Clips Manager Lisa Beard.

　　It'll be another three years before Jennifer gets to donate again. Until then, her smile will spread to another child who will be grateful for her donation. Surely, this is a meaningful cause. The world will be a better place to live in if everyone offers his love.

　　So how do you become a successful gambler? Back in 1873, engineer Joseph Jaggers won $300，000 dollars in three days at the casino in Monte Carlo by noticing that the mechanical faults in their wheels made certain numbers come up more often than others.

　　Before gambling was legalized in Las Vegas in the 1930s it was a small desert town; today it has 35 million visitors and earns seven and a half thousand million dollars from its casinos every year. What do they do with the profits? Build hotels. The world's biggest hotel is the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino with 5，005 rooms. In fact somebody estimated it would take one person 329 years to sleep in every hotel room in Vegas.

　　What's the longest-running bet? There was a ten-year bet between writer Paul Ehrlich and businessman Julian Simon that certain metals would be more expensive in 1990 than in 1980. Ehrlich lost when copper, chrome, nickel, tin and tungsten dropped in price. Simon was trying to make the point that the world is not heading for catastrophe and that we are not using up the world's resources as Ehrlich had predicted.
