1、find
(1)vt.發(fā)現(xiàn)，發(fā)覺(jué)
She found a wallet lying on the ground.她發(fā)現(xiàn)地上有個(gè)錢包。
We found her still asleep.我們發(fā)現(xiàn)她還在睡覺(jué)。
He found her left behind.他發(fā)現(xiàn)她被落在后面。 (2)n.發(fā)現(xiàn)，發(fā)現(xiàn)物（尤指貴重或悅?cè)说模㊣ made a great find in a second-hand bookshop yesterday.
昨天在舊書(shū)店里我有重大發(fā)現(xiàn)。
對(duì)比：find 多指偶然發(fā)現(xiàn)，碰見(jiàn)；后可接名詞、復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)或從句。
find out 指通過(guò)觀察、探索而發(fā)現(xiàn)事實(shí)的真相、真情，通過(guò)調(diào)查找出原因，或發(fā)現(xiàn)秘密、錯(cuò)誤等；一般接名詞、代詞或從句。
discover 指發(fā)現(xiàn)客觀事物的存在，發(fā)現(xiàn)已存在而不為人知的事情；多用于好的事物。
Have you found the book you have been looking for?你一直找的書(shū)找到了嗎？ Have you found out why he was late?你弄清他為什么遲到嗎？
Columbus discovered America.哥倫布發(fā)現(xiàn)了美洲。
find one’s way（to）找到；設(shè)法找到去……的路Can you find your way to the post office?? 你能找到去郵局的路嗎？
Rivers find their way to the sea.? 條條江河通大海。
拓展：make one’s way非常困難地前進(jìn)
feel one’s way 摸索著前進(jìn)
force / fight one’s way突破……而前進(jìn)
push one’s way排開(kāi)……而前進(jìn)
2、first of all 指按時(shí)間，順序等處于第一位的例：First of all let me say how glad I’m to be here.首先我要說(shuō)我來(lái)到這兒是多么高興。
I’m interested in coins ,but first of all I’m a stamp collector.我對(duì)硬幣感興趣，但我首先是個(gè)集郵的。
比較：first 與 at first
first 譯為“首先，是從動(dòng)作的先后角度來(lái)考慮的。”如：
Before we go , I must first change my clothes .走之前我得先換衣服。
at first 意為“起初，含有后來(lái)不這樣了的意思。”如：
At first I didn’t like him ,but now I do .起初我不喜歡他，但現(xiàn)在喜歡了。
for the first time 意為“第一次”。如：
It was there that they met for the first time .正是在那兒他們第一次見(jiàn)了面。
3、flash
in a flash
該介賓詞組意為“轉(zhuǎn)眼間”，“突然間”，“瞬間。”如：
In a flash. I realized where we had met before.
