Losing a job is indeed very depressing. A sudden break to the regular monthly income can actually disrupt the life in a very bad way. However, nothing is permanent in life and you can do some things to deal with your unemployment.

First of all, don’t panic. Things do happen and they’ll continue to happen unexpectedly. Don’t get extremely discouraged and then land into depression. Believe in yourself and stay calm. Believe this is a temporary phase which is going to get over soon and thus there is no need to worry so much.

Once your mind is calm, try to analyze your situation. Why were you unemployed? Were you really able to do that job? Did you ever like it? Were you financially satisfied? Try to find answers to these questions. If you feel the job wasn’t of your choice, be happy! You no longer need to work there now. Soon, you’ll be finding a new job which will be of your interest.

Once you know the job is no longer yours, don’t complain. Think of other ways to earn money. Keep yourself very active. Call the people who can help you out or can guide you properly. Update your resume and practise interviewing skills. Look out for vacancies(空缺) in the newspaper and on the Internet daily and give as many interviews as you can.

After you’ve analyzed the alternatives, try to improve on your weak areas. If you feel you lack somewhere when it comes to communication, attend some lectures on the subject. If you need some technical training in your field, go ahead and complete a course that will improve your technical skills. Also, socialize with people and make your social life rich.

Lastly, try to promote your spirits and be happy. Don’t be nervous because things will surely fall into the right place!

?、?1.D as if to see=as if he was to see。

  2.D be set in 意為“以……為背景”;once published=once it is published,是省略用法,it與publish是被動關系。

get down to doing sth.=set out to do sth. 著手做某事;set off 動身;set up 建立。

suggest可構成suggest one's doing,suggest that…或It is suggested that…結構,不可構成suggest sb. to do sth.結構; hope可構成hope to do sth.,hope that…或It's hoped that…結構,不可構成hope sb. to do sth.結構。

  5.D hold

take on 呈現,雇用某人,承擔;take up 拿起,占據;take over接管;take off脫衣,起飛。

由前面is supposed to…soon可知應用一般將來時。will是will make his visit的省略,即“我不知道他是否會來俱樂部”。

Sometimes it is not easy to seek proper answers to food safety problems.

have sth. in common with sb.

  Ⅱ.16.as be honoured as意為“被譽為, 被授予……

  17.married

  19.for fight for equal rights

20.independence 根據“fight for an end to the British rule”而判斷此處指“結束英國統治而獲得獨立”,故填independence。

  22.in give in屈服。

The Art of the Review…Hosted by Sam Tanenhaus, editor for The New York Times Book Review.
