名詞的單位
在漢語中名詞常用量詞來修飾，在英語中很多情況下也可用量詞修飾。
1.可數名詞的單位
修飾可數名詞的單位主要有兩類:一類是只能修飾可數名詞的常用量詞，稱為普通量詞;另一類是特殊量詞，主要指根據意義而選擇的量詞。
(1)普通量詞
普通量詞修飾可數名詞，直接放在所修飾的名詞前。
few幾乎沒有
a few有幾個
many很多
a great many大量的
a good many大量的
a number of若干、有幾個
a large number of大量的
numbers of大量的
several有幾個
a dozen一打(十二個)
a score of二十個
(2)特殊量詞
可數名詞也可與某些特殊量詞連用，表示一雙、一對、一群、一組、一排、一列、一粒、一塊、一瓶等。這類量詞的用法舉例如下:
a bag of books 一書包書
a basket of eggs 一籃子雞蛋
a group of children 一群孩子
two classes of students兩個班的學生
a pair of glasses 一副眼鏡
a pair of trousers一條褲子
a group of people 一群人
a row of trees 一排樹
a crowd of people一群人

2.不可數名詞的單位
修飾不可數名詞的量詞分為普通量詞和特殊量詞兩類。只能修飾不可數名詞的量詞稱為普通量詞，根據意義而選擇的量詞稱為特殊量詞。
(1)普通量詞
只能修飾不可數名詞的普通量詞有:
little幾乎沒有
a little有一點
a bit of一點
a little bit of很少的一點
a great/good deal of很多
a large amount of大量的
(2)特殊量詞

修飾不可數名詞常選擇的量詞為a piece of，這一短語有很多意義，常可譯為一張(紙)、一塊(面包)、一則(消息)、一條(建議)、一段(音樂)、一支(粉筆)等。
a piece of music 一段樂曲
a piece of good news 一則好消息
a piece of chalk 一支粉筆
a piece of news 一則資訊
a piece of paper 一張紙
a piece of cloth一片布

根據意義還可選擇容量、長度、距離等單位的量詞:
