A Lifeguard at Johns Beach Saved a Drowning Child
At about 7：00 p.m. July 8， the lifeguard Miss Rose was still on duty at Johns Beach. Suddenly she heard a cry from the sea. When she caught sight of a drowning boy struggling in the water and crying for help， she immediately took up a life-buoy tied with a rope and threw it over to the drowning boy. The boy got hold of it and did his best to swim towards the beach， where Miss Rose was going all out to pull the child out of the water. At last the child was saved.
The child shook the lifeguards hand， saying， Its very kind of you to save me. If it were not for you， I would have been drowned. Thank you very much. Miss Rose got easy and smiled， saying， Its my duty to care for each child， but in the future do not go any farther away when swimming.

Lady Silkworm
Many years ago there lived in Hangzhou a girl called Aqiao. One winter morning she walked into a valley. To her surprise， she found herself in a different world.
There were rows of white houses with mulbery trees in front of them. Many ladies in white were singing and picking the leaves from the trees. They fed the leaves to little silkworms. Aqiao learned how to reel silk and how to dye it.
When she returned home， she began to raise silkworms and taught her neighbours how to do it. It was said that this was how people started to raise silkworms in China.

One fine day my brother went to play in the long grass near the woods. Ah Fu-our dog followed him. There were flowers everywhere. My brother enjoyed himself very much. Suddenly he saw a snake crawling through the grass up to him. He was too frightened to move. Just at the moment Ah Fu jumped over at the snake and fought bravely with it. Although Ah Fu was bitten by the snake， he was able to bite the snake to death. My father hurried over and gave Ah Fu a shot and Ah Fu was cured. It was our brave Ah Fu who saved my little brother.
