英語近義詞辨析(九)
Use, Consume, Expend, Employ, Utilize
Use(v.)---用，使用。普通用語。指事物時有消費的意義，指人時，對這個行動表示強烈的不贊成。
Consume(v.)---用。表示用盡，耗盡，指用在自己身上。
Expend(v.)---用。與consume同義，但多指付出的方向。
Employ(v.)---使用。較正式用語。指人時有雇用的意思；也可用于物，但無消費之意。
Utilize(v.)---使用。強調使用有益的方面。
例:The company now uses a computer to do all its accounts.
該公司現在使用一臺電腦處理一切賬目。
He uses every means to prevent it.
他用各種方法阻止它。
They asked how many bottles of wine he consumed in one year.
他們打聽他一年里喝了多少啤酒。
We consumed much time and energy in writing this book.

Already(adv.)---已經.常用于肯定的陳述句中,也可用于疑問句以表示驚奇.
例:Has the bell rung yet? --- It has not rung yet.
已經敲鐘了嗎? --- 還沒有.
I've started learning Greek, but I haven't got very far yet.

Cipher(n.)---零.指0-9的任何一個阿拉伯數碼,表示無時,具有象征意義.
Nil(n.)---零.多用于體育或資訊領域.
Nought(n.)---零.美語為naught,在字面意義上與cipher同義.
例:His chances of success sank to zero.
他成功的機會降到了最低點.
It was fifteen degrees below zero.
氣溫是零下十五度.
One followed by two ciphers is 100.
一的后面跟兩個零是一百.
I can't bear such a cipher any longer.
